The Art of Letting Go

The Pearls of Wisdom Diaries: Chapter One

Sabeeha Saheb

Our mental well being is our own responsibility and it should not depend on the others around us.

So, learn to let go......

Often, around the house, we, as women, have complaints that things are not done the way we want them to be done or.....that, we have to do everything!!! I've been working on training my brain to pick one of the options - either do it myself right away (that's a tad bit much) or let it go (for the moment). Whichever option brings me a little peace of mind. Sipping my coffee watching all the toys scattered around me is tolerable at times and other times, drinking my cold coffee amidst a clean tidy space makes me feel happy. So pick one and relax.

Trust and patience.......this was a super hard one. But try to trust that your intelligent, post graduate partner who discusses nuclear solutions around the world, has the ability to figure out the way to operate the washing machine, hold the plate a little longer under the sink till the soap flows away, the mechanism of folding clothes at their seams........and so on. Yes, the 1st 2nd 3rd time and probably a few more times will be annoyingly incorrect but that's where the patience needs to kick in. Instead of a heated dismissal, a bit of smile, sigh and patience goes a long way.......not only for the complex chores around you but also for your mental health.

It surely is way easier to train your own brain to feel happy and peaceful than expect others to do it for you.

Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world; today I am wise so I am changing myself - Rumi.
